COGNITION: THE GAME SINGLE REVIEW

Springfield Missouri, USA hard rock band Cognition has released their debut singles The Game and The Washer. With all possible respect, I won't be reviewing The Washed today due to personal reasons. "“The Washed” was written as a healing anthem to support all those affected by the fentanyl epidemic." I encourage you to listen to The Washed. If you need

support with a drug addiction and live in Australia, you can call the Lifeline National Alcohol & Other Drugs Hotline on 1800 250 015. It's like a mission to ruin everything, While we sit here thinking, is this love or suffering? It doesn't really matter, You are my favourite thing, Never learned my lesson, Benefits of poisoning. Musically, Jen's vocals sit at the forefront of The Game like a beacon, dragging your attention in and holding you in their powerful embrace. Jen's voice has a commanding tone with interesting inflections, something akin to Maria Brink of In This Moment, with an astounding amount of potential. The instrumentals give you the

compulsion to sway along as you listen to the track, though I must admit that I found my attention being drawn to the vocals, with several transitions between sections feeling a little clunky. The instrumentals make me think of listening to Clutch on a hot Summers afternoon around a barbeque with beers. I was particularly pulled into the clean guitar work at the very beginning of the track, which held me in great anticipation for what was to come. There is something flirty and cheeky in the undertone of the laid back nature of the track; as if the back and forth of the lyrics slipped in to give you a sword fighting style parry between the guitars and drums. Hey, won't you tell me your name? You don't want to be by yourself. Tell me

what is your name? I guess I said, "Hey, don't you tell me your name? Don't tell me that we're not the same. The Game paints the picture of a couple who are on and off again. With lines like "Is this love or suffering?" and "You are my favourite thing. Never learn my lesson if it is important," it speaks on the inability to let go of the connection, even when you know it is inherently bad or toxic for you. As most people seem to have that regretful partner in their past with a twisted love story, full of raw emotion and an inability to detached from them, I feel that The Game will resonate with most listeners. Know we're always stressing afraid to lose our minds. My life is still so crazy. Yeah, we do it all the time. It doesn't really matter. You are my favorite thing. Never learn my lesson if it's important.
