DEADHEAT: WHY ARE WE LIKE THIS? SINGLE REVIEW

Sunshine Coast Punk band Deadheat is back with their latest single "Why are we like this?" Deadheat, formed in 2010, has been releasing music since 2012 when they burst onto the scene with their debut single "Just Relax", followed by EPs "Deadheat" (2014) and "It's Not a Phase, Mum"

(2024); along with a plethora of singles including "3 out of 4" in August this year.

"Across the room I see your face, eyes wide opening looking my way, I wish I could read your mind right now, in my direction you approach". "Why are we like this?" will put you through all of the emotions of a love at first sight style encounter. The instrumentals do an incredible job of portraying the nerves and awkwardness of approaching a person romantically with a

sprinkling of hope and excitement layered in. As the song progresses the instrumentals become more self assured and confident as the connection between the two grows and blossoms into a genuine and stable relationship as they learn more about each other; the couple realising that this is a once in a life time kind of love, to be treasured and held. The story is endearing and is a refreshing statement piece amongst the craziness that is forming a romantic connection.

"Can't help but think of you even if I try, always seeing your face when I

close my eyes, clear and dizzy at the same time, lost and found at the same time, terrified but so in love at the same time."

"Why are we like this?" is an awkwardly cute song that will bring a goofy smile to your face. It holds the energy of "First Date" by Blink 182 with more romantic tones. A scene of teenagers eyes meeting across the room during a school dance played in my mind while listening to this song. It may just be my overly processed romcom mind, but there it is. "I've never been like this before, I hesitate but I want more, how do you even exist, why are we like this? Now here we are it's just us two, no one knows me more than you."
