RORONOAH: JUDGEMENT SINGLE REVIEW

Brisbane Technical Deathcore band Roronoah are back with their latest single "Judgement" and I'm not sure you are ready for this one. Roronoah are rapidly making a name for themselves in the Australian metal scene, with a sold out home town show on their recent 'Accustom to Hurt' EP

East Coast tour. Judgement marks the end of an era and the beginning of another.
I was privileged to have an early access listen to this track and to say that my mouth hung open for at least 90% of the first round listen is a bare minimum description. This band continues to astound me at how locked in they are at such an early stage in their career. Having seen the band perform live three times already this year, with more shows to come it is safe to say that I have seen their rapid growth in popularity in person and there is a genuine reason for that. "Fucking left rotting inside this prison, Father of the damned has risen, Walls of severed flesh and blood, Now discovered deep in mud Given gifts of our decision,

Information now unhidden, The lies begin to decay, You make the bed where you lay". 'Judgement' plays out in Poetic Diction rather than a typical song structure. Once the story begins it plays out in full; a tale of a man condemned to hell for the consequences of his own actions. "God hath judged thee, Born in flames and raised asunder, Bastard son of drugged fucked mother, Praise the dark and kill another, God hath judged thee, From the earth I break the clouds
Entry in, I'm not allowed, At the gates I meet the hound, God hath judged thee".
Vocalist Kalani Explains: “Judgement was written as the end of a saga that fans of Roronoah might be aware of. We've been writing a story since we released Let The Cleaver Swing and Deathrow Manifesto. Judgement is the final episode in the story of a serial killer after the events of Deathrow Manifesto. He has ended up in a place similar to Hell and is basically praying for a final Judgement to be sent to heaven. I figured that with where we are heading with our sound in the band, this would be a great idea for a send off for 'Early Roronoah' while we continue our ascent in the heavy scene - and to have Judgement be the transition only felt right. The end of one story is the signal for the start of Roronoah”

"Hell can't hold me, You won't stop me, Chains I break free, Mother fucker listen to me, Dragged to hell I have been damned here, Caustic clouds and blood soaked sand, From the depths I seek absolution, Fear me God for i have sinned, God hath judged thee, Cross the line and went no further, Just another lamb to slaughter, Prayed for victims senseless murder". Musically this song is everything you would expect from a deathcore track; face melting drums, shredding guitars, technical scaling, a furious and unyielding tempo and a breakdown that will get you hyped. 'Judgement' holds the undeniable sound of a Roronoah song that we have come to expect while being fresh and interesting. The whole tone of the song is frantic and chaotic, fitting perfectly with the someone who is unravelling within themselves as they face their external judgement. "God can not facilitate, Another broken mental state, Here in hell is where I stay, God hath judged thee, From whenst he came, I shall remain, I go

insane, it'll never change, You will fear me forever and after, Cause I have sinned".
The final thing that we need to discuss is Kalani's vocals. If you have met me for two minutes and we have spoken about music, I have probably talked at you about how incredible I think Kalani's vocal range and technique is. I have on several occasions used the comparison of Phil Bozeman of Whitechapel, and Roronoah have the very real potential to be Australia's equivalent. Recently at a show I attended, during some microphone difficulties, Kalani messing around with his vocals to help the audio tech, received a round of applause for the freeform vocal stylings. Many of the techniques he had used during that

moment, which I had not heard him use before have made their way into 'Judgement'. His ever growing skill set proves that he is a vocalist to be watched. All-in-all I cannot wait for this band to make it to the big stage, and for them to get the recognition that their talents deserve. "Life lost once is fucking found, Mutilated in the ground, Buried here without a casket, Defiled with a fucking hatchet, I've got one thing on my mind tonight, That's seeing your skull crushed and left behind, I wanna see your brain aerate on the pavement, The smell of iron is what I am craving, You will fear me forever and after for i have sinned, You will fear me forever and after for I have sinned".
