TWISTED LULLABY: SIREN SONG SINGLE REVIEW

"A siren calls to you" through Gold Coast/Brisbane Alt-Metal band Twisted Lullaby as they unveil their enticing new track "Siren Song". Siren song marks Twisted Lullaby's fourth single release since December 2024 when

they flourished onto the scene with "Gotta Get Out".

"An angel calls to you, Lures you out to sea, Shimmering skin washed blue, Sailor ignores her sharp teeth, You've fallen into her ocean".

Probably my favourite thing about this track, and one of the most unique things I have seen in a while in alternative music, is that it doesn't follow a normal song structure. You will find no verse, pre-chorus, chorus, verse, bridge, chorus here; the song instead follows a tale from beginning to end. Sung like a narrated poem, it pulls you into the icy grip of the siren. This song is a

refreshing take and I was pleasantly surprised by it.

"She loves you, then leaves you bleeding, all confused, Her mind is a disease, She drains you, you can't move, You've lost your way, You wash ashore, piece by piece, She lives on destruction, She is your temptation, A fantasy torn, from your dreams, You will need my siren song to sleep, Sweet dreams."

The track begins with sounds of the oceans and ethereal siren calls before the band jumps in, adding another layer of depth and tension to the atmosphere. The intentionally breathy vocals of Shay adds even more

dimension as you are left feeling overwhelmed and something akin to frantic within your mind. As I sat listening to this track, with my headphones surrounding me with the music, I personally felt like I was being drawn into a situation I couldn't get out of and my chest began to sit heavier as the track progressed.

"Her beauty conquers you, Struck with fear no heart to plea, You're drowning left with nothing, She scares you then jumps you, Seduction has got you, Seasons you with salt to taste, It's too late you can't move, You've lost your way, You sink below piece by piece, She lives on destruction, She is your temptation, A fantasy born from agony, You will need my siren song to

breathe, Give yourself to me, Mercy."

Eventually you are left with the resolute sensation that you are bound to the fate of destruction by the hand of the siren. She has you in her grip and you will never see life above the water again. This tale feels like a cautionary tale to be careful what you wish for, because it may just bring upon your demise. This track is hauntingly beautiful and the lyrics, vocals and instrumentals work seamlessly together to push forward the tale of annihilation.

Twisted Lullaby will be performing at Tomcat in Brisbane, Queensland on Friday the 21st of November, with special guests Punk band Whoroboros and Nu-Metal band Call The Mourning. The event is a female fronted 18+ event with doors opening at 7pm. Tickets are less than $15 so you would be mad to miss out.
