ALL HOURS: LET ME GO SINGLE REVIEW
Updated: Sep 28
Meanjin/Brisbane Pop Punk Band All Hours have returned with their latest single Let Me Go. All Hours hit the scene in 2017 with their EP Sightseeing, following it up with EPs The Brightside (2018) and Perspectives (2022). I know I’m not the same as I was back then, A walking ghost, leaving scars up inside of my head, All bets are off, because

dear I am running on empty, I can’t explain the moment it all went. Let Me Go is a portrayal of mental health struggles wrapped up in a pop punk bow. Lyrically Let Me Go discusses the challenges, pressure and isolation of anxiety; as it creeps into your life without notice until it has changed you into an unrecognisable version of yourself. Vocalist Dani's longing for normalcy, despair, anguish and loss of control pushes into every crevice of the track, blending with her powerful vocal performance in such a way to make it easily palatable and to lose yourself in the sing-a-long; while not watering down the ever important message.
If you or someone you know needs help or someone to talk to, Lifeline is available 24 hours either to call on 13 11 14 or via text on 0477 13 11 14.
Sorry I’m not here right now, Something’s taking over me, Do you know I’m looking right through, When I’m looking at you? It’s getting hard to see, This person who I thought was me, Don’t know where she could be.

Instrumentally, Let Me Go, slowly builds in pressure and urgency as the song moves its way towards the guitar solo, roughly two-thirds the way through the track. I am historically not the biggest fan of a guitar solo, however, the solo in Let Me Go is full of the lyrical emotions and pulled me in like never before. It is evident the solo was written out of experience and is the perfect climax for the track. All Hours have a level of hope for a light at the end of the tunnel that runs underneath the heavy imagery, mostly through the bouncy drums and fluid tempo changes.
“‘Let Me Go’ confronts how mental illness can isolate you, alter your reality and leave you feeling like a ghost in your own body, ... This track marks a brand-new era for us and we are stoked to finally get it out there for our listeners and the people who have supported us from the beginning” explains All Hour Vocalist Dani O’Grady.
I just wanna feel okay again, I just wanna stop playing pretend, I’m so sick of sitting here alone, I just want the dark to let me go, Let me go!
