SAFEHAVEN: NIGHTCRAWLER SINGLE REVIEW
Safehaven is a Nu-Metalcore band from Naarm/Melbourne, forming off the bones of Hereafter and NTH RD and drawing inspiration from 2000s alternative music. Safehaven released their debut single nightcrawler on

September 25th, delving into themes of fixation and infatuation. Nightcrawler, I've watched all your movement, Light hits your shoes and refracts back into my eyes, Lines crossing dive into temptation, I'll follow your placement holding your arms as we glide. While reading the synopsis for nightcrawler I was worried the song was going to go down the road of O.K. by Gyroscope, a tale of stalking and obsession to an unhealthy and criminal degree; luckily that was not the case. Instead we are greeted with a tale of lingering glances and an instantaneous romantic connection that feels like divine intervention. Lyrically the track feels like the inner monologue of a person caught in the thrill of fixation on their new favourite, while lines about "not caring if they even get their name" giving the impression they will create who they are as a person in their own mind to satisfy their desires. Nightcrawler induced visions of two people catching glances between the strobe lighting and moving around each other, but never taking the leap to speak to one another, leaving the pair in the space of "what could have been." Glow, It's like time slows, You're a maestro of the mind, As we unfold, I'm the one you can rely.
“Have you ever seen somebody across the other side of a packed room, and not been able to take your eyes off of them? To the point where you intrusively start thinking about the imaginary life you could have together? That's the core of Nightcrawler. It's all of those scenarios that walk the line between this strange social yearning and obsession. I wanted to write about a feeling that was under-explored in this genre.” - Jordan Kellaway

Nightcrawler we might get close, I know better than most that, ambition frays the mind, Spite hollows my bitter soul but you play your role, Better than I could've fantasised, Oh, and when we get close, Don't know if you know, But I know the way you roll. Musically, nightcrawler feels like a chaotic and energetic club scene, with loud music and moving bodies. The momentary pause, shifting tempos and gritty undertone that slips in and out of the track keeps you guessing where the song will go. Around the one minute ten second mark, the combination of the instrumental shift to lighter tones and the vocal slides create an almost euphoric feeling of being held in rays of white light, as you dance slowly in circles. I found myself dancing along to the track and I feel like in a live setting nightcrawler will create a bouncy and high energy environment. And I don't care if I never even catch your name, I'll remember all the ways you looked at me, Don't believe it if I leave and dream of your embrace, I don't wanna go, if you're gonna stay.
