RORONOAH: UNLEASH THE KRAKEN SINGLE REVIEW
Technical Deathcore heavyweights Roronoah have risen from the depths to bring forth their latest single Unleash The Kraken featuring Edward Warren, Vocalist of Ironstone. Unleash The Kraken is a direct follow-up to Roronoah's EP Shores of Desolation, released on the 20th of February; and featuring the Davey Jones inspired track Crimson Smile. inside, Child of Ruin, chaos incarnate, I am the manifestation of, Fear. Unleash The Kraken marks a maturing in the Roronoah sound, as all elements that identify Roronoah slip into place with ease and lock in like never before. As we all know by now, I follow Roronoah's career closely and watching their musical skill and story telling capability grow, has been an excellent experience. I personally believe that Unleash The Kraken will be a defining track in Roronoah's career. "We are taking it as heavy as possible while keeping it melodic" says Vocalist Kalani when discussing the track. Taking on the tide, the water fills your lungs, you plant the seeds to your own damnation, A message from Beneath, a look into my mind, the pressure from the deep shall break your spine, Break your spine. Unleash
the Kraken hit you like a tsunami of rapid fire double kicks, technical guitar riffs and dramatic orchestral and choir pieces that build tension as you head towards the eye of the storm and impact point. The melody of the track will have you grooving, with an undeniably energetic and dance-able beat. I genuinely cannot wait to see this Roronoah captures the feeling of being chased down by an unstoppable force with no chance of escape incredibly well. The song insights the same feeling as the Kraken catching up to and surrounding the Black Pearl in the Pirates of the Carribean. I particularly enjoy the addition of the choir style vocals in the later third of the track which evokes the feelings of praying to whatever gods you believe in. Head my warning, Immortal birth of the sea and the
sky, Live only to kill and I can never die, Dragging their souls down to fathoms so low, The light cannot shine in the currents Below. I have spoken on many occasions now about how I believe vocalist Kalani has the potential to be Australia's Phil Bozeman (Whitechapel), with his incredible and constantly growing list of vocal skills, and relentless depth of control for someone so young. Unleash the Kraken begins with an absolutely filthy "Arise" before jumping head first into a whirlwind of gutterals, tunnels and squeals. Mid track has the moment I was personally holding my breath for; where Edward enters the tracks. If you are uninitiated with Edward and his style, you are in for a treat; with a combination of vocal techniques that could have him centred
in a horror film, he unleashed a force equal to that of Will Ramos (Lorna Shore). The combination of Kalani's lows and Edward's highs is a match made in heaven, strengthened only by the additional choir which pulls in the perfect level of ethereal softness into the mix. The fear that waits for everyone, And here forever you remain, The predator and you are prey, As you stare into the darkness, It permeates your mind, The wrath of the kraken, Shall break your spine, Head my warning, Unleash the kraken, Shall Break your spine, Leviathan, Head my warning.
