RARESLEEP: HEROES SINGLE REVIEW

Colorado four-piece hardcore band Raresleep (formed in 2021) have unleashed their latest single "Heroes", following their 2025 debut onto the world stage with single "Lost." "Heroes was originally conceptualised by the lead guitarist (Jake Deherrera) after the loss of his grandfather. In

turn every member of the band contributed to the overall emotion of having dealt with loss themselves. Overall, heroes is an expression to those who need an outlet in order to grieve." After losing my last remaining Grandfather right before Christmas last year, this song was a confronting one for me, but in my opinion everyone needs a positive outlet for grief, and music has always been that for me, so lets jump into Heroes and see where it takes us. You were the calm beneath the skies, A quiet storm in your tired eyes. The world still spins, but it feels misplaced, You slipped away without a trace. Your shadow still hums in the hall, Like you never left at all. Heroes begins with the confronting sound of an oxygen machine, and a phone ringing, pulling you immediately into the space that you never want to be in, receiving "the call". The heart shattering "WHY?" that can be heard in the background will hit you right in the heart. If you have ever lost someone close to you, you will understand the pain in that moment and

Raresleep has done an incredible job at portraying the emotions. As the song continues it feels like you are spiralling through the layers of grief and all of the complex emotions that come with that; the anger, the frustration, devastation and intense sorrow. Some say heroes never die but somebody lied because god took mine Now the silence screams where your laughter died, You faded away… without goodbye. I reach for your ghost, but the stars won’t align, You’re gone, but your love’s still etched in mine. There are three main areas of this track that hit a little too close to home for me, only proving that the band knows how to tell a story. 1, the very beginning, showing the complete picture and spectrum of the event within the first twenty seconds. 2. The breakdown, it ripped me straight back to the point in my life where I had lost my Dad and the whirlwind of emotions that came from that (and honestly still persist. On a personal side note, remember grief is not linear and you are allowed to take as long or short amount of

time to process the loss of a loved one as you need.) 3. In the last minute a section of "old-timey" music plays and will drag you into the memories of generations past. Your hands built heavens from the earth, You never once forgot my worth. Now I chase the echoes you left behind, The softest ghost, the cruellest kind. The breathy vocal tones combined with the deeply connected chest voice provide a well rounded sound, alongside the guitars and drums that shift from sorrow filled calm to frantic mayhem in the span of a second. The use of violin as a transition towards the end of the track ties the heaviness of the moments before to the fade out beautifully, almost giving the impression of being led into a waltz with Death himself. Heroes is a stunning example of grief transmuted into something empowering and healing. Strength in the ache, the peace in my mind. I still feel your warmth on the coldest nights, No goodbye, no second try, Just a love that refuses to die.

Rest In Peace to all those who inspired this song.
