PYROKINESIS: HOLY WATER SINGLE REVIEW

Gold Coast Metalcore band Pyrokinesis has unleashed "Holy Water", the debut single from their upcoming EP 'Sulphur', to be released in March 2026. I have previously seen Holy Water performed live twice, firstly in July when Pyrokinesis opened for Diskust and recently as they supported Twisted Lullaby, you can read my review of the night here. On both occasions the track was delivered with a high energy performance, however, my second time around, seeing the increased crowd interaction

after the singles release only amplified the experience. So shot that Holy Water and lets get into the breakdown. "A testament to what's evolved, you're beautiful, but that glint in your eye, it's consuming, growing, taking over my thoughts and words, that hex you've cast is absurd". Holy Water will have you thinking about that person who had you hooked from the first glance, knowing full well they are bad for you, but you go there anyway, jumping full force into the desire and lust despite the inevitable destruction. "You walk on by, that glance it detonates, within this soul of mine, so go ahead and push the hammer down, your dead messiah, wouldn't touch me with a ten foot pole, if he knew what I would do, I'll

drink that holy water". Throughout the official music video, you can see the "demonic" character causing chaos as she makes her way through the house party, a trail of violence left in her wake as couples begin to tear themselves apart at her influence. "Baby gone do do the bad, bad thing, can you be the one make me believe, make me go do, do the bad, bad thing, can you be the one to make me believe". Musically, Holy Water starts with a melodic riff that draws you in, like a thread from the chest being pulled slowly into a spiderweb of seduction, before flipping dramatically to

something far heavier, chaotic and frantic. The drums throughout this track are cutting, relentless and fantastic at pulling the chaos through the track, while the guitars will have you in a flow state, the rhythm heightening, then softening like a breathing pattern. "Angels don't, I know that angels don't, angels don't, I know that angels don't look like that, angels don't look like that, but God they make me believe, they make me believe in something more, something more than this, I'll drink that holy water". Vocally, Skylar shows off a variety of techniques, from melodic cleans to a variety of heavy fry screams and tumultuous rap-singing. The varying singing styles are used artfully throughout Holy Water to tell the story and has the added bonus of keeping the listening experience interesting as it chops and changes. "To make me believe in something more, something more than this".
