Deathling were lucky enough to sit down with North Queensland Metalcore band Same Pains, leading up to their latest single drop 'Terminal' and here is what Vocalist Justin Kelly had to say.

How did you choose the name Same Pains?

During the recording of our first album, we spent many nights deliberating over hundreds of band names in an Excel spreadsheet. Each time breaking it down to a top 5, which Same Pains wasn’t even in. We were so close to being called Cribnixus :/

How and when did you form as a band?

Around 2020/2021 we began writing together so somewhere around that time.

What does your writing and recording process look like?

With our work schedules and living apart we find it hard to write in a room together. Generally we all demo what we can separately. The having cram sessions when we can to nail the final details. Is it working? (Kirsty Note: It is absolutely working.)

What challenges do you find being an alternative band in North Queensland?

The lack of XXXX Gold outside of Qld is a little hard to handle. Outside of that trying to look cool in long clothes without getting heat stroke.

How did your Christmas special go? What was the highlight?

That was up with one of the best shows we’ve ever played. The inclusion of All Ages as well as playing alongside local young musicians was very special for us, it felt full circle for us to host and to have the community involved so heavily was extremely rewarding.

If you do a Christmas special again, what would you do differently next time?

More bands, more locals, more presents, more decorations and more reindeer.

I saw you perform in Toowoomba,Queensland last year, supporting Zukø. How did the show go for you, and what was it like travelling such a distance for a one time performance?

Epic show and run all together. We love the lads in Zuko and travel ain’t no thing for shows like that. We make our best effort to hit regionals as that’s our roots and for a line up like that we were stoked to be a part of it.

What inspired your latest single “Terminal”?

It is inspired by the notion of refusing to help myself. That I almost need to be suffering to have an identity. I am not of value nor do I want to be. Whatever this is, I will overcome it myself for better or worse. But it truly never leaves. This changes a person forever.

Can we expect a Same Pains EP or Album drop this year?

1 GAZILLION PERCENT.

Who is your dream band to tour with?

Motörhead.

If you can feature any Australian Artist on a Same Pains track, who would it be?

Late November.

Is there any upcoming tour information/music release or general information you would like to share with the readers?

You should all see something cool in the next couple weeks – we're going big this year  - hitting a lot of places we’ve been before and a lot of new. See u there xo
